The Acme Electric Story
Founders Donald L. Barrigar and Howard Smith pooled their resources to form Acme Electric in 1950. Donald’s son, Don D. Barrigar, joined the company as field supervisor in 1981 ,and after steadily advancing through the ranks, Don became president in 1991. He still serves in that role.
68 years after its founding, Acme Electric is still a family-owned business – albeit one with more than 150 employees – dedicated to providing premium-quality commercial and industrial electrical contracting services in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor. Acme foresees an exciting future and continues to serve, grounded in long-term customer relationships and the commitment to provide the acme of service and quality.
Acme Electric will:
- Constantly hire, train and develop high performing teams
- Continue to provide premium-quality contracting services
- Deliver exceptional customer service at all times
Working With Acme Electric
When you work with Acme, you’ll see our mission in action. It’s just the way we work.
Maximum-performance teams: Acme Electric provides more than 250 field and office employees. Through the NJATC in association with National Electrical Contractor’s Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, all company electricians complete a 5-year apprenticeship and are licensed by the city and the state of Iowa. Their education continues in accordance with city and state requirements and with involvement in professional groups and supplier-sponsored programs.
Premium-quality services: Acme offers a range of services for commercial, industrial and residential applications, covering both new construction and installations for existing buildings. We apply the latest technology and best practices to ensure we’re optimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. Safety is a top priority at Acme, so we observe and promote OHSA-approved installation methods. All construction sites meet or exceed OHSA and NECA standards. We’re proud to report that Acme finished 2017 with zero recordable injuries.
Superior customer service: Every team member at Acme commits to delivering the highest level – the acme – of customer service to all customers at all times. We set high standards for response times and measure our performance to ensure we’re meeting those standards. We pride ourselves on being part of the solution on projects and commit to never be the source of problems, delays or cost overruns.
At Acme, we believe frequent, clear and honest communications throughout a project is the key to our clients’ success.
