History

Donald L. Barrigar and Howard Smith pooled their resources and founded ACME Electric in 1950. Three years later, they purchased assets of another electrical contractor business, Standard Electric. Within 20 years, significant growth occurred as the company developed industrial and commercial niches beyond their residential work. Today Donald D. Barrigar, Donald L. Barrigar's son, is president of ACME Electric. The history of excellence continues in the new millennium with big projects at the UIHC Center of Excellence, Alliant Energy, and the Coral Ridge Mall.

Professional Employees

ACME Electric Co. employs approximately 100 field and 20 office people. Through the JATC in association with NECA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, all company electricians complete a 5 - year apprenticeship and are licensed by the city. Their education continues with involvement in professional groups and supplier sponsored programs.

Services

ACME Electric Co. has three divisions to serve the electrical needs of customers: Construction Division, Engineering Division, Technical Services Division.

ACME Electric Construction Division tackles new installations using computerized estimating and project scheduling software. The technology helps the company keep a project on track, on time, and within budget. Design / Build, a construction and engineering capability, matches ACME's electrical experts with customer's specific needs. As an alternative to customer supplied engineering, ACME will provide their staff of professional engineers and drawing certification capabilities to create facilities and manufacturing systems that realize optimal cost and achieve maximum construction efficiency.

A part of ACME Electric since 1974, ACME Engineering Division also specializes in control systems design and integration. With registered engineers on staff, ACME Electric Co. can offer customers a full service engineering group to develop cost effective solutions for a diverse range of clients' individual needs.

The Technical Services Division is active in predictive and preventive maintenance of new and existing electrical systems. Closely involved with the Engineering group, the Technical Services Division provides breaker testing and protective relay testing/calibrating services. The TSD technicians are also experienced in Thermal Imaging and HI-POT/MEGGER testing procedures. The experience of service technicians from all fields blend together in one organization to provide customers swift and accurate service.
