The History of Acme Electric Company
In 1950, founders Donald L. Barrigar and Howard Smith pooled their resources to form Acme Electric Company Inc. with Mr. Barrigar holding the position of President and CEO for 41 successful years.
In 1981, Donald's son Don D. Barrigar joined Acme Electric as field supervisor and, after steadily advancing through various other positions, Don succeeded his father as President in 1991 - A role he would proudly hold for the following 30 years.
In 2016, Don D.'s son Jackson joined Acme as an assistant project manager after returning from California after 5 years. Over the next 6 years, Jackson worked his way to commercial project manager and in 2021 became the 3rd generation to hold the title of President at Acme Electric Company, succeeding his father Don D. Barrigar who now serves as the company's CEO.
As of today, decades after its founding, Acme Electric is still a family-owned business – albeit one with more than 150 employees – and continues to be as dedicated as ever to providing premium-quality electrical contracting services in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor.
Acme foresees an exciting future ahead and continues to serve while grounded in long-term customer relationships and commitment to provide the acme of service and quality.
